The Freedom Files television series draws on the power of true stories to highlight vital civil liberties issues of our time and inspire viewers to take action. Produced by Jeremy Kagan, these half-hour documentaries feature the firsthand accounts of real people who have taken on the powers that be, often at great risk to themselves, in order to preserve their rights.

The following is a list of Freedom Files Season 1 Episodes:

Religious Freedom

The right of every American to practice his or her own religion, or no religion at all, is among the most fundamental of freedoms guaranteed by the Bill of Rights. This episode  will introduce you to people who fought back challenges to this essential civil liberty.

Voting Rights

Many Americans still fight for the fundamental right to vote, despite the passage 41 years ago of the Voting Rights Act. With vital parts of the VRA up for renewal, even more citizens could find themselves stripped of their voting rights.

Gay & Lesbian Rights

This episode of The ACLU Freedom Files shows how the members of gay and lesbian families in America are treated as second-class citizens under the law, lacking rights that many people take for granted.

Women's Rights

Women have made great gains in the fight for equality, but gender bias continues to create huge barriers for many—especially for immigrants, women with low incomes, victims of domestic violence, and women seeking reproductive health care.

Youth Speak

Young people in America are often treated as if the Bill of Rights doesn't apply to them. In this episode of The Freedom Files, you’ll meet young people whose rights were violated and who fought back.

Drug Wars

America’s “war on drugs” has done nothing to reduce drug abuse, despite decades of massive spending. Instead, it has diverted resources from fighting other crimes, fostered racial profiling and led to the imprisonment of millions.

Beyond the Patriot Act

Through personal stories of ordinary Americans, "Beyond the Patriot Act" tells how a misguided law and other government overreactions to Sept. 11 are restricting our most basic constitutional freedoms and threatening America's system of checks and balances.

The Supreme Court

“The Supreme Court” tells the story of Lindsay Earls, a teenage girl from Oklahoma, who stood up for something she believed in, only to find herself in the highest court in the country.

Dissent

Freedom of speech is a given in America, right? Not if you're Muslim hip-hop poet Amir Sulaiman, or groups of protesters at the Democratic and Republican national conventions in 2004.

Racial Profiling

Over four decades after the civil rights movement began, people in America continue to be harassed and jailed because of the color of their skin. "Racial Profiling" introduces you to real people who've faced this illegal practice, and shows how they fought back.
